Prospectus: Introduction
General aims of the school
Our aim at Deanesfield is to provide a stimulating and structured environment where each child feels accepted and happy.
We aim to help the children towards a greater development of themselves and encourage them to achieve their full potential.
With the all-round development of each individual, including concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes, we aim to show children the way in which they can use their own unique tastes and talents in a useful and meaningful way, so that they will achieve a greater understanding of the world about them.
High priority is placed upon the effective learning of the skills in language, reading, writing and mathematics. The requirements of the National Curriculum will continue to be met. We see it as part of our task to encourage wider interests and talents in all children. We hope that the caring attitude we, as a staff, show to children, they will show to each other.

Nursery Organisation
Our Nursery offers two sessions per day. It is staffed by a Teacher and a qualified Nursery Nurse. These permanent members of staff are often augmented by student nursery nurses. We have organised the sessions so that your child will attend afternoons for the first two terms and the final term for the morning session. This enables the older nursery children to participate in the Infant assembly which held on a weekly basis in the Infant school, to enjoy music and use some of the P.E. apparatus in the large hall.
The Headteacher is available should you have any problems or queries you wish to discuss.
The school caters for children between the ages of 5 years to 11 years. Children become of statutory school age at the beginning of the term following the one in which they attain their fifth birthday. Children transfer to Secondary School in the September after their eleventh birthday.

Secondary Transfer
During you child's final year, the Director of Education will send you a list of secondary schools in the London Borough of Hillingdon explaining how and when to apply for a place at these schools.

Consultation with Staff
Parents who wish to contact their child's class teacher over some minor matter are invited to do so just before the morning session, or just after the afternoon session.
The Headteacher is usually available during the school day for brief interview but parents are advised to arrange an appointment if a longer interview is required.
There are three official open evenings during the year. The first in early November is to enable parents to meet their child's class teacher and to discuss how their child has settled into his/her new class. The second is in the Spring Term and the third in early July when parents are invited to see the children's work on display and to discuss their child's progress with the class teacher. At the end of the Summer Term all parents of Infant and Junior children receive a written report on the progress their child has made during the year.
N.B. Parents are asked to contact the Headteacher immediately if they become concerned with any aspect of their child's education or welfare.
