Stopwatch Theatre Workshop:
'Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?'

The Year 5 and Year 6 classes took part in a drama workshop on road safety from the Stopwatch Theatre group on Friday 10th July 1998. The Year 5 and 6 classes from our neighbouring school, Bourne, came to Deanesfield and joined in with our children.

Some people came from the theatre to show us a play about road safety. It was about two cousins who were best friends but one day as they were going to school one of them ran across the road and got killed. After we got into groups to talk about it...

It was about a girl called Tammy and her friend Chris. Tammy was killed in a road accident. After we had a workshop. We talked about the play and made still pictures of things from the play. Our group showed the accident with all the police and Tammy. We called it Dead Girl. Then we suggested ideas to help a girl stand up to a bully.

They did a sort of play to Years 5 and 6. The play was about a girl who got run over because a boy dared her to run across a road. It taught us about making our own decisions. It was very good. After, we got into groups and acted out scenes about how people were affected by by the girl's death. I liked it when they were both riding new bikes and talking the same words at the same time, it was very funny. They were very good actors and you could hear every word they said.

It was about a girl called Tammy and her cousin Chris. Tammy also had a boyfriend. Chris dashed across the road unharmed but Tammy wanted to take the subway. Chris called her a chicken and she got hit by a car and died. Her boyfriend and his sister were in the car.
I thought the play was really good but it was sad at the end. They put on a drama workshop with four groups. There was a girl called Natalie and we had to show her how to face up to a bully. We also did freeze-frames. Our group did the scene of the accident, another group did the funeral, another did the driver's nightmare and one did rumours. That was the best part. I enjoyed the play as well...
