St. Valentine's Day Disco 1998
Disco (5K)
Lauren liked the lights
On the last day of the last half term, we had a disco. It began at 7.00 and finished at 9.00. It was my first disco. We paid £1.50 for one ticket. With that ticket we received a free drink. Any more cost 20p a bottle. Crisps also cost 20p a packet. When I was coming to the disco, I did not expect any flashing lights, but there were!

On Thursday 12th February, Deanesfield School had a Valentine's Disco for years 5 and 6. There was smoke, professional lights and a professional disc jockey. There were drinks and food which cost 20p each. Your ticket got you a free drink. There was all of the latest pop songs like 'Men in Black' by Will Smith and 'Stop' by the Spice Girls. I thought that it was a very good disco. There were even song requests. It lasted from 7.00pm - 9.00pm. It was fun while it lasted. Everyone enjoyed themselves dancing the night away. A lot of people were jumping up and down when the Teletubbies song came on. Everyone loved the disco, even the teachers did! Mr Cogan and Miss Smith started dancing together. Most of the teachers stood at the side watching.

Thursday 12th February was our Valentine's Disco. It was a ticket sell out. On the day of the disco year 6 started getting excited and making all the decorations. The time had come for the big night. We arrived and all the teachers were standing round the stage. Disco lights were flashing and everyone was dancing. There was Lauren in year 5 who started to crawl on the floor examining the lights because she had never seen them before. The D.J was putting on all the records and said, 'This drink is making me burp' and put on a funny noise of a loud burp. Then there was Hannah and Thomas Kirk dancing together in the corner and a lot of the boys were standing around them watching them. Then there were lots of requests for different songs. Some people on the microphone saying 'Oh you love him' or 'He loves you'. Then someone said 'Miss Barnes and Mr Cogan' and we all went chasing after Miss Barnes and she ran out the room. Then some teachers came on the dance floor and started to dance to the song YMCA. The last song was Teletubbies and everyone got up to dance. There was a big group and the boys girls were standing opposite each other. Then it turned 9 o'clock and the disco ended and everyone's parents came to pick them up.

The Disco was a great success. I can remember Lauren examining the disco lights that were flashing on the floor. Everyone thought that she was ill. I think it was kind of the teachers to give us a free drink. I remember that the man played things from the hit programme 'The Cruise'. He was very funny and kept on telling jokes into the microphone. Lots of children crowded around him asking if he could tell people that someone loves someone else. I thought it was funny when Mrs Lomax started dancing to the Y.M.C.A.
