| The Stardome Visit
The Stardome is an inflatable mini planetarium, which was set up in the Infant Hall on Friday 29th January 1999. The Year 2, Year 6 and some Year 5 children went inside for a lesson on the Earth in Space... We took our shoes off then we crawled into the Space Dome. It was huge. At first the man there talked about how long it took the Earth to go round the Sun and about shadows and light from the Sun. I thought it was very interesting. Inside it had two holes, one to get into the dome and one for the fan which he said was very dangerous. Then he showed us pictures that included the Sun, the Moon and the planet Jupiter and the pictures were quite close to the planet and the stars. After that it suddenly went dark and when we looked up there were stars. There was the shape on the Plough and the two top stars were the pointers, they pointed to the North Star. At the end he let us ask questions but I couldn't think of any, and then we had to crawl out of the dome and put our shoes on... Louise (Y5) When I went in it was like a mini dome. It was called a planetarium. It felt like it was moving when we looked at the stars... Jashesh (Y5) We went to the planetarium it was fun. I felt a bit funny because it went all dark and stars came. It looked small from the outside but big from the inside. It had a fan which held it up but you could not see it. On the globe it had a little person on it called Izzy. We got in by a small door that two people held open. We had to crawl through it... Bulent (Y5) The dome seemed small from outside but inside it was quite big. He showed us how the world moves. I think my favourite part is when he showed us the stars. I think it was fun but there was a fan that held up the dome that was a bit too noisy that some times I could not hear. We had to take our shoes off before we went into the dome because the walls were very thin material. We learnt about the planets, the Earth and the stars. I learnt that the Sun is the closest star to Earth. He showed us the planets... Danny (Y5) Before we went in I thought it was a bounce castle and I wondered how we got into the dome. It was not very big but we had to fit into it. We had to take our shoes off before we went in. When we got in the dome I thought there was an escape tunnel, but it was where the fan was... We learned about Space and the stars and planets. We learned about how the world rotates. When we looked at the stars it was exciting and fun. When we got out of the dome it felt warmer... Stephanie (Y5) We learned about the different constellations in the dome, like Orion. We learned about some different planets like Jupiter and stars like the North Star. We saw some pictures of the Sun, the Earth and Jupiter. Inside was a projector for the pictures and there was an inflatable Earth ball. We learned that the Sun shining on the Moon can be up to 100 degrees Celsius... Adam (Y5) |
