Year 6 Newspaper Pet Care Hamsters They like lots of water and food. You are supposed to clean them once every two days. You have to give them exercise by buying a hamster ball which they run around the house and they can't fit down small gaps. You have to play with them once or twice a day to make them tame and so they don't bite or scratch. You should buy a cage not too small or too big. You have to put sawdust at the bottom, not in one big pile, you have to smooth it out. For a bed you have to put some cotton wool in a hamster house (a box with a hole in it). Ian Rats They need lots of water and food but try not to over-feed them. They can fit through very small gaps and if they live with no food they will die in a few days. You should play with them once or twice a day to make them tame. They are good pets to play with, they don't bite or scratch. You should buy a cage which should be a little bit smaller than a hamster cage with metal bars going down like a jail house, with a plastic base at the bottom. You should nearly fill the bottom with sawdust smoothed out on the bottom. You should buy a house with a lid and one or more holes in it for them to get in. You should clean them once every day. For exercise you can buy balls so they can run around and they can not fit through small gaps. They are good pets. Ian Snakes You have to get a glass cage, some sticks, some water and a hollow log. For its food it eats mice and slugs and eggs, depending on which type of snake it is. The snakes like the heat they can't live without it. If you put it too near heat you will fry the snake. You want something that is 30cm high above it. Lee Chickens You have to take care of them and always collect their eggs or they will crush them with their beaks. You have to have a really big pen for four chickens. You're supposed to clean them out after four to five days. You give them grass, cabbage, potatoes and anything with salt. They also eat chicken pellets and crushed pellets. If you fill the crushed pellets they are like flour. You must put cold water in a bowl with the crushed pellets then stir it with a stick. Give them straw in the two huts where they sleep. They stand on stands up in the pen. watch out because if you live somewhere that's around lots of trees and the pen is in the back of the garden, a fox might come and scare them or a cat might do the same. This is a good pet to keep. Alex Rabbits They live in hutches or if you have not got a hutch then you can use a cardboard box. They need hay or sawdust. They drink water or milk from a bottle. They eat carrots, cabbage and some plants like dock leaves and stinging nettles. They like man-made food such as chocolate and rabbit food from a pet shop. They chew on wood in shapes of carrots and plants to keep their teeth in sharp. They need exercise by running around the house or garden. Make sure they don't get out. You have to clean the hutch out twice a day. You should play with them quite a lot to make them tame, so they don't bite or scratch. These are good pets to keep.
