Looking close in the magic mirror the boy saw pirate ships sailing like the wind over wild waters, Gold coins dropped beside deep boot-prints in hot sand, Fierce black-bearded men heaving cutlasses in the salt sea-marsh. He wiped the glass and there came white gulls swooping through the empty sky, Mountains standing tall in the floating mists, Dragons breathing ice-cold fire in a magical forest. Again, he wiped the glass but there came dusty cobwebs in cool caves, Black bats swirling through the cold, dark woods, A grey castle standing in a field of stars... Darren Leeming (Y4) Looking close in the magic mirror the girl saw a lonely unicorn lying quietly in the emerald grass, Swirling skies above the dark green jungle before a tropical storm, Tired fishermen sailing over the rough oceans. She wiped the glass, but there came a tall pointed castle in the deep, dark parts of a wood, A snow-white seagull drifting through the thick mists, A silky white horse galloping through the fresh green grass. Again, she wiped the glass and there came a flat-faced troll riding a ruby dragon, Dusty, tangled spiderwebs in the dark depths of caves, A blonde girl dancing alone outside the heavy, bronze doors of a palace... Eloise Woollard (Y4) As she gazed into the magic mirror she saw the hot, golden sun shining over the crystal clear sea, Grottos gleaming full of gold, The rough waves crashing against the grey harbour walls. She wiped the glass but there came bronze-faced witches dancing round a green cauldron, Silver dragons dancing in a wet cave, Black cats creeping through a cold, lonely wood. Again, she wiped the glass but there came dusty cobwebs hanging in dark canyons, Secret places where the goblins meet, Evil cackles coming from the distance... Deborah Harriman (Y4) As he gazed into the magic mirror he saw tangled silver webs in the depths of dank caves, Bronze dragons stamping through fields of green flames, Wet, dark places in the secret heart of the rock. He wiped the glass but there came wild horses galloping through the snow, Gleaming white gulls floating through the thick sea-mists, Swallows swirling through the cool evening air. Again, he wiped the glass but there came a unicorn grazing in the quiet morning sunshine, Gleaming treasure hidden in deep grey caverns, Fronds of ferns gently drooping in ancient fields... Victoria James (Y4) As she gazed into the magic mirror she saw a pirate sailing on silent seas, Fishermen gazing at the quiet ocean, Soft waves lapping against the silky sand. She wiped the glass but there came wolves in the cold darkness of the forest, A proud unicorn standing tall in the cool grass, A snow-white seagull drifting in the clear blue sky. Again, she wiped the glass but there came volcanoes burning softly, flickering in violet flames, Great copper dragons breathing blue-green fire, Golden grottos filled with magical fireflies... Jessica Hurst (Y4) Looking close in the magic mirror the girl saw silver rivers flowing past tall trees, Cornfields swaying under a blue sky, Silver mists lingering over snowy peaks. She wiped the glass but there came wild horses running and jumping together, A fox hunting under the orange harvest moon, A blood-red dragon sleeping heavily in a damp cave. Again, she wiped the glass but there came dark eagles swooping through the early morning mist, An old woman picking herbs on a cool forest path, A wolf howling mournfully at the starry night sky... Jane Roe (Y4) Looking close into the magic mirror the girl saw a white swan swimming on a lonely river, A gleaming ivory seagull gliding through the empty air, An owl sleeping in the thick mists of the morning. She wiped the glass but there came a nightingale singing in the quiet woods, A golden kestrel flying through the blue sky in the late morning sun, Larks swirling from the heavens like falling leaves. Again, she wiped the glass but there came a swallow swooping into the red-orange sunset, A robin crying in the night, An eagle watching silently from a lonely mountain peak... Joanne Allen (Y4) As she gazed into the magic mirror she saw an emerald dragon breathing flames, Golden grottos filled with dancing fireflies, Strange bright creatures calling softly beside the green ocean. She wiped the glass but there came a black pirate ship drifting by lonely tropical shores, Bronzed men climbing taut rigging, Tall, apple-green weed swaying softly in the quiet jade lagoons. Again, she wiped the glass and there came cool doves flying in the fresh mists, Ice-white gulls swooping softly in the salty air, A sapphire swan gliding on a crystal lake... Zoe Kempton (Y4) As he gazed in the magic mirror he saw men digging for gleaming gold, Sharks swimming through the coral reefs, Monsters creeping through dark, cold minds. He wiped the glass, but there came golden dragons breathing frosty flames, Nightingales hovering in the misty air, Dark creepers hanging from crystal-clear branches. Again he wiped the glass, but there came a shoal of mackerel darting through the clear blue sea, Shipwrecks lying lonely on the cold sea-bed, Golden eagles swooping through the cool winter air... Matthew Elsdon (Y4) As she gazed in the magic mirror she saw a dragon softly breathing golden flames, Gloomy grottos covered with sparkling webs, Scaly monsters calling in the ocean. She wiped the glass, but there came pirates digging for treasure in unknown lands, Gleaming jewels in a chest of gold, Ships sailing the rough seas. Again she wiped the glass and there came a tall ivory castle gleaming at the end of the forest, Turrets glinting showers of diamond sparks, Ruby windows shining in the night...
