| Last year I went swimming every Friday morning with the other children in Y5 at school. We went to Highgrove Pool on a coach. I got my Silver Award in the deep end. | Swimming | |
| I went to the 1997 Swimming Gala but I was a reserve. It would have been lovely to get in the pool because it was boiling. I kept drinking my drink to cool down but soon it was finished. It felt like we were there for weeks. It was very loud and all of the time I was screaming my head off at the team. Everybody said I was a better supporter than a swimmer. After it had finished I was glad to get home. On the way home Zoe, Carlie, Cherish, my mum and I had a nice big portion of hot fat chips. I like going swimming and I go three times a week with my friends Sophie and Carlie. On prize day I got a badge for being in the team. This year in the gala I got there just in time and I was pulled through the crowds. Mrs Lomax had hold of my bag so I wouldn't get lost. When we were on the poolside Zoe was the first to get called out. She came third. Next was Fabian and he won. When Thomas went to dive in he did a somersault. I didn't see it but luckily my mum had videotaped it on the camera. I was in the girls' freestyle and the medley relay. We won the boys' backstroke and the boys' medley relay. On the way home mum and I got some chips and sweet and sour sauce to dunk them in. This year was great because we tied with Field End in sixth place. Verity (Y6) |

I was in the first race which was breaststroke. I came third. I had to wait about two hours until my next race. When it came to the medley I was really nervous because I was in it. We came second. When it came to the boys medley Thomas did a tumble turn instead of a dive and the whole crowd started laughing. After all that we were all very tired. In the end we came 6th and Mrs Lomax was very pleased with us for representing Deanesfield. Zoe (Y6) |

The gala was held at Hayes Swimming Pool. It was absolutely boiling.
When you had finished a race, you would be dry in a couple of minutes.
Luke, Fabian, Richard, Alex, Paul, Thomas G and Bradley were all finalists.
Most of them got certificates and medals. Miss Dron was taking pictures
of all the finalists with the digital camera. When you were swimming, you
could hear all of the people shouting for other people to win. I can still
hear the gun which started the race ringing in my ears. In the boys' relay
Thomas decided not to do a normal dive, but to do a somersault! He didn't
come up for a few seconds, but then he swam up and carried on with the race.
Overall we came sixth out of sixteen or seventeen schools. We couldn't have
got that far if we didn't work as a team. Helen (Y6) |
