| Class Visits: Juniors' Visit to see Tom Sawyer at the Savoy Theatre (1998) Following the visit to Aesop's Fable last year, the Junior classes went again to the Savoy Theatre in the West End of London to see the production of Tom Sawyer on Thursday, 10th December. We left again at 11.00 in the morning. All the Infant classes went to see the pantomime of Mother Goose a few days later. We were all hungry on the way there... Gemma B We saw the Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Guards, the River Thames, bridges, Christmas trees, lights and MacDonalds... Uhmesh There were exactly 85 Christmas trees we passed. We saw a horse and a jockey on it - we waved at the jockey... Priya I felt very excited because if this year's show was as good as last year's then we were in for a good time... Thomas K I got to sit next to the window on the way. I felt a bit sick. Everyone was singing Jingle Bells except for me. On the way back I saw two mini obelisks and the middle was all covered in hieroglyphics. We saw a bridge with lots and lots of lights... Peter We saw lots of houses that were white and we saw the Houses of Parliament and a statue of Oliver Cromwell and Cleopatra's Needle... Krunal On the way we passed some Household Cavalry. The play was quite good, though between the scenes you could see the actors changing the scenery. On the way back I got a headache. I couldn't help noticing a bridge covered with lights. It was beautiful! I just tried to get to sleep, but in vain. I stayed wide awake all through the journey home. I had a wonderful day... Lauren At the back of the coach most of the children were singing 'Ten Green Bottles' or songs by the Beautiful South. The play was excellent. My favourite part was when Huckleberry Finn talked to the doodlebug... Thomas G We passed Big Ben and went along the River Thames. I kept on laughing because my friend Erhyn was tickling me. I told her ghost stories while we ate. We saw two Guards on horses and we waved, but they weren't looking. There was another school at the theatre and I tripped over one of them. On the way back we saw a lighted up bridge and all the houseboats. We liked the one with the garden the best. Erhyn tried to sleep but I kept waking her up... Charlotte I didn't like Tom Sawyer as much as Aesop's Fables, it was based on one thing instead of lots of things. I didn't like it when he kept making us say his charm... Robert I liked the play but last year it was better. I never liked the bit where they kept on doing the spell. It would be better for younger children like Year 3 or 4. The story was ok but I have seen better. You could see the people changing the background... Jack I felt a bit sick on the way as the coach shook. When we got there it was really chaotic because everyone wanted to go to the toilet and there were only three. The show was fun to watch but it was not very good. On the way back Charlotte and I were guessing when the units would change on the clock in the coach... Erhyn I thought the coach was really comfy. When we got to the theatre it looked different to the year before, then I realized that we were on the balcony before. My favourite actor was Becky Thatcher. I thought Tom was really brave to say he ripped the book. I liked the charm as well... Katie-Jane On the way I saw Charley's old school, it was the Willow Tree. We entered the theatre from the back. It didn't smell too good. It was very exciting but not quite as good as last year. My favourite bit was when Muff Potter was singing in prison... Matthew I quite liked the storyline but it was not very good because you could see them changing the scenery round and you could see the door next to the jail. I thought it was good when they made the windows and holes which I didn't notice in the beginning. I thought the acting was good from all of them, especially from Tom and Huckleberry Finn... Sean We saw Big Ben - it did not look that big compared to the television. Joined to that were the Houses of Parliament, they looked very long and quite old. I thought the play was quite good. It could have been improved by having more adventures, and it could have been a little longer. I thought last year's play was slightly better... Billy I didn't like it because they thought they were being funny but weren't. I didn't like it when they kept doing the magic charm thing... Gemma W I saw lots of really nice boats. I didn't think it was as good as last year but it was still quite good. I liked the handshake they did. My favourite character was Aunt Polly, who was really funny. It wasn't the type of play for me, it could do with a bit more action... Serena I thought things were repeated too much. I didn't like it as much as last year. Only about half of the people around me seemed interested. I remember everything about Aesop's Fables last year though... Katie When we got in the theatre was very noisy. When we were in the toilet it started and I thought that was wrong. I thought it was very well acted, but last year's was better. Some of the other children made childish noises when they kissed... Hayley I didn't like it because every time they turned the house into a cave or the prison you could see them moving it round. Last year's was a lot better. On the way we saw boats for sale. Kurt I saw Big Ben and a bridge with lights on it. It was a very good play... Senina You could see the people moving the scenery around and it spoiled it... Vanessa On the way we saw a mini Titanic, it looked really pretty. In the play, I thought it was horrible when they kissed. My favourite character was Aunt Polly. She, I mean he was really funny. The charm the boys did was a bit babyish but I couldn't resist doing it... Charley On the way I thought it was really interesting and I think London has a lot of interesting things. Tom was the best actor because he was the funniest. They looked terrific in their clothes... Sarah-Jane It was raining on the way back. We saw the Albert Bridge with the lights. The theatre was excellent and I liked it very much... Adam On the way we saw Big Ben which gleamed in the sun. I was asleep on the way back. We saw a swarm of birds, it looked like a tornado...
